Creating resources can be a great way to make money, but creators can take it even further by upselling addons. Offering upsells can help you increase your revenue and build a longer-term relationship with buyers. Addons provide you with the opportunity to expand on your existing resources to give customers a more comprehensive experience. Free resources can also have addons!

An addon is a child product of your resource. Buyers can’t purchase addons without already owning the resource it belongs to, or having it in their cart to be purchased in the same transaction.

Addon types

We’ve created four basic types of addons that you can offer for your products to ensure you have a powerful system to use while still maintaining consistency between our large catalogue of resources.

We’ve written an article which gives ideas for addons, check it out here: Addon Ideas

If you have an idea for an addon you’d like to offer for your product that isn’t possible with the existing types we provide, please get in touch with us through the #creators channel of the BuiltByBit Discord and let us know! We’re going to add more addon types in the future based on your suggestions.

EULAs

Writing a set of terms and conditions or End User License Agreement (EULA) is hard, and not something that creators tend to have the experience to do well. Before we introduced our standardised EULAs we saw countless cases of a creator creating unreasonable and unenforceable terms which would turn buyers away or cause other problems.

Another problem with creators creating their own EULA from scratch is that they’re difficult for buyers to understand and often times are completely skipped over by just selecting agree without fully reading to understand them.

To remedy this, we’ve created a standard EULA which we encourage all creators to use for their products. It covers the information relevant to creators and buyers in a succinct way. Along with this Standard EULA, we have two variations of it:

You cannot enforce any terms on buyers outside of these one of the three EULAs we provide for sales that occur on BuiltByBit. You can define a default EULA and up to one additional EULA addon. So if buyers want to pay more to purchase your resource with less restrictive terms you can give them that option.

You may view our Resource EULAs to see an overview and full set of terms.

Support

All resources sold on BuiltByBit must provide a working copy of the product and basic support. However, we’ve seen an increasing number of creators using addons to charge an additional fee in return for extra services, such as installation, customisation, or priority support. Our Enhanced Support option allows you to offer these sorts of services in a way that’s compliant with our rules. With Enhanced Support you can automate Discord roles, and an onsite conversation will be started between you and the buyer to facilitate the discussion.

Support durations

You may define a default support duration for your resource and up to two additional support duration addons. This allows you to offer renewals as described on our temporary licenses page. A support duration cannot be cheaper than an existing longer duration. Eg. you cannot have a 6-month duration costing $5 and a 1-year duration costing $2.50.

A buyer may not stack multiple support duration purchases unless the time remaining on their support duration is less than that of their previous purchase. Eg. if I purchase a resource with a default support duration of six months, I can then purchase a 1-year support duration directly after. But I then could not purchase another 1-year support duration again, because I have 1 year & 6 months remaining. Which is not less than 1 year.

A buyer can purchase any addon at the listed addon price as long as they have an active support duration. If their support duration were to expire, they must purchase at the combined base resource price & addon price.
